Olivia Ong @ NYP

I was invited by Janette to a NYP Pal gathering and she mentioned it was after Olivia Ong's concert.
Hearing her name, I jumped at it and say, "I want tickets!!"

The first time I heard of Olivia Ong was not from the tv series theme song, but was this album I came across in "That CD Shop".
It was one of the singers placed in the same genre as Corrinne May, one of my favourite Singer.
And my favourite song from that album was "Sometimes when we touch".

Her crisp, refreshing, yet creamy voice made an impression with my ears.

I wanted to find out what she looks like and so I made a trip back to Alma mater to see her.

One privilege as a NYP student was that we were given opportunity to really shine in the area where we do best, even it was not exactly in the academic side. And NYP to me was truly a home. Especially now being a working adult and studying uni night school, this small solitude is very precious to me.
Of course, we as alumnus, always deserved the best. I had front row seats, smacked in the centre.
Talking about VIP status!

She sang 9 songs from her new album, with two guitarists doing unplugged; and with the host being Dennis Zhou Chongqing, the concert was a very good one. She even sang the Mandarin song from our local drama OST, which to my knowledge from my friend Zhiyong, who seen her back in Taiwan (he's studying in Taiwan and came home to Singapore and also went with me to this very concert) she didn't even sing mandarin songs in Taiwan.
Cool~

I of course, took the chance to get my
album signed by the singer herself, and say so, I must admit that I am getting rusty on this whole meet your idol autograph session thingy.

It was eons ago when I did that back during my school days.
I of course managed to take a photo with her and Zhiyong backstage (another privilege of being a NYP Pal "Baby".. Ha!)

All and all, good music is always appreciated. And I always love it when a local artist make it internationally, and that shows that dreams can come true, and working towards your dreams, makes me truly proud to be a Singaporean too.
